It was a big project, but it really paid off. Our tv looks so nice mounted on the wall (Olevia 242T).
Since I don’t have a laser level, I attached a regular presentation laser pointer to my level using cable ties.

I tested different sitting positions on the sofa and then I aimed my improvised laser level at the area where the center of my tv screen should be. Make sure that the level “air bubble” shows that you are in horizontal position before you mark the laser dot on the wall. Of course, nowadays you can buy laser levels in the store. Then aim it as a rifle holding the button on the laser pointer. My Bosnian family on my mama’s side is all hunters, hence the analogy

We did the same with two of my friends (Kemo and Alen) and their most comfortable seating position (thanks to the guys for all their help) and came up with an average height on the wall where the tv should go (very close together). Ana’s height should be right there, too. Real-world test: Next, get a sawhorse or books or some bar stools and rest it at that height to see if it works in reality, too (thanks to Michael for this important tip). After watching for an hour comfortably, I was convinced that this was the height.

Before mounting the TV, I took some photos of the back label to record the serial number and other details in case I need to EVER call customer support.

I also took pictures of the jack/input layout, since my manual covers different models. Also, this would be a good time to attach all cables that will be hard to reach once your tv is hanging. Add cables now even if you don’t need them since it will make things so much easier.

Next, follow all the instructions provided with your mount. Finding the edges of the studs and making sure you drill in the center of them is pretty important. As a trick, after you find this center, try putting a nail in the spot with a hammer, just to confirm the hard stud-material resistance (Kemo’s method). A stud should be 2” wide and their distance should be 16” from center to center in most cases, but definitely use a stud finder to be sure, since it is not always the case. Use a level for this installation. The instructions were pretty good so, this part was pretty easy.

I was going for a wire-free look, so I used a hole saw that matched the diameter my white plastic grommet.

You can find grommets at your local home depot or order on-line. They make thinks look very neat.

As another trick, I like to tape a regular size envelope underneath of places where I drill.

That keeps the dust falling into place, and reduced the amount of vacuuming.

There are two grommets: one behind the tv where the cables go in and one where they come out. Make sure this does not conflict with a position of the next stud. In my case I picked a place right before the stud as low as possible, since my future stand will be covering the hole anyway.

To run the wires between two holes, I used a straighten wire hanger. Don’t throw that dry cleaning stuff away yet

Then, I attached the cables to it using cable ties (my favorite tool of all times).

The wire makes it very easy to move the wires to the lower grommet. Make sure you place the grommets now if you haven’t done so already.

Connect the cables and enjoy your TV! Now who says the DIY culture is dead? Kemo loved it so much. He immediately ordered an identical stand for his Olevia. He will be able to use it even if he changes televisions later on .

About the tv stand: The tv looks like this now with components in the corner. We have not bought a fancy TV stand yet to put underneath the LCD. I like the open space, so even when we buy a stand I am thinking that it should be very small, minimalist and “inconspicuous.”

Dear friends, please do not worry, this is NOT blog and I DON’T plan on <strike>blogging </strike>writing on a regular basis. It would be nice if I had the creativity like some of you but I really doubt it… Be well!
